The SMSCP is designed to be integrated into existing forms of study, and is divided into three levels culminating in a comprehensive level exam. Each level is directly tied to a job profile that clearly defines what certified personnel should be able to do.

  • Level 1 corresponds to what might be called an “intelligent machine operator.” Emphasis is placed on efficiently operating complex mechatronic systems and troubleshooting and foreseeing problems. The core competency at this level is the ability to adapt to new work situations quickly and appropriately.
  • Level 2 conforms to what might be called a mechatronic systems technician. The focus is on systems management, investigation, repair and troubleshooting.
  • Level 3 is equivalent to university-level engineering education. In this level, emphasis is placed on systems design and process optimization.
